Reading and Its Importance to Civilization

How many books have you read in the last two months, if any? What are your favorite books? Why are books important? I believe that reading is crucial to the development of the mind. Without reading, we cannot have an educated population, and cannot make informed decisions when participating in the political, economic, or social arenas. How has your reading informed your stance on political, consumer and social justice issues?
